CORT Farmworker and Immigrant Worker Law Training

Description

The Committee on Regional Training (CORT) is sponsoring the Farmworker and Immigrant Worker Law Training May 23-25, 2023 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Farmworker and Immigrant Worker legal services programs throughout the Midwest come together annually for a pre-season farmworker law training targeted to seasonal staff employed by the various programs. While the emphasis is on training summer staff to "issue spot" on a variety of issues affecting migrant and seasonal farmworkers, including agricultural employment, labor camp housing, health and safety, access to public benefits, services and immigration issues. This training will also give newer permanent staff an introduction to the various legal issues that the farmworker and immigrant worker populations face. Finally, it will serve as a refresher and update to more experienced attorneys and advocates. This year, we will also have breakout sessions for more experienced attorneys and trainers.

The training will be conducted by experienced staff from the farmworker and immigrant worker programs. It is open to participants from any interested legal services office or nonprofit public interest law firms, as well as others who work with these issues on behalf of farmworkers and immigrant workers.
