CORT First Friday Webinar - Safety Planning with Survivors of Domestic Violence

Please note that this webinar is scheduled for an hour and a half, which is longer than our normal one hour CORT First Friday webinars.

This session is open to all staff from CORT member programs, but it will be particularly helpful for legal aid intake staff. 

Safety may seem like a simple concept, but those experiencing abuse by an intimate partner often face a myriad of challenges to seeking safety. Presenter Leah Stone, from the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, will discuss the complex barriers domestic violence victims face when seeking safety from an abusive situation. She will introduce evidence-based frameworks for safety planning with victims of intimate partner violence and apply these strategies to realistic scenarios participants may encounter.

Presenter

Leah Stone (she/her) serves as the Training and Technical Assistance Manager at the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, where she has worked since 2021. Leah facilitates, organizes, and presents trainings to advocates and allied professionals across Ohio on a wide array of topics related to domestic violence advocacy. Drawing from nearly a decade of experience and the wisdom gained from survivors, Leah has expertise in trauma-informed care, shelter advocacy, crisis hotline, community outreach and collaboration, support group facilitation, and trauma-focused psychotherapy. As a licensed Social Worker in Ohio, Leah brings an understanding of the complexities surrounding victim advocacy and social work. She approaches her work through an anti- oppression lens, recognizing the intersecting systems of power and privilege that impact survivors' experiences. As a co-chair of ODVN’s DEI Committee, Leah collaborates with colleagues to build more diverse, inclusive, and equitable spaces for advocates in Ohio.
