CORT First Friday Webinar - UCCJEA / UIFSA

Description

This webinar will cover the basics of two important uniform statutes, which have been adopted by all four CORT states. The UCCJEA (Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act), governs jurisdiction of courts to make, modify, or enforce child custody determinations. UCCJEA also provides a basis for temporary emergency jurisdiction for domestic violence survivors who have relocated to another jurisdiction with their child(ren). Separately, a different and less well known statutory framework, UIFSA (Uniform Interstate Family Support Act) ensures that states do not enter multiple or duplicative support orders (both child support and spousal support) if and when parties move from the state that issued the initial support order. UIFSA provides rules, which are distinct from UCCJEA, about which state may modify or enforce support orders.  Learn about the UCCJEA and the UIFSA, how to effectively analyze cases involving jurisdictional disputes, and how to incorporate the guidance provided under the UCCJEA & UIFSA into your domestic relations practice.
