First Friday Webinar - Social Security Disability/SSI Crisis in Eastern Kentucky

Description

About 1500 people, mostly in eastern Kentucky, received notice this year that their Social Security Disability and/or SSI benefits were being reviewed because of possible fraud involving their former private attorney, certain doctors, and an ALJ. Those people are all facing new ALJ hearings to review their original eligibility. The Appalachian Research and Defense Fund of Kentucky (AppalReD), with the help of the Kentucky Bar Association (KBA), the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR) and others, has recruited over 100 private attorneys to provide pro bono representation. Between the cases accepted by AppalReD and the cases referred to the pro bono attorneys, 600 people have been provided representation at their hearings. But more help is needed. This webinar will detail the history, legal issues, and human cost of this crisis. Please join us to find out about the crisis and how you can help.
