First Friday Webinar - Trauma Informed Legal Advocacy

Description

The session follows the First Friday in May, which introduced the concepts of Trauma-Informed impacts on our clients but did not address the specific context of handling legal cases. Presenter Rachel White-Domain, a lawyer with the Trauma-Informed Legal Advocacy (TILA) Project in Chicago, will offer guidance on applying trauma-informed principles to working with survivors of domestic violence in legal proceedings. Ms. White-Domain will (1) frame the presentation by discussing what it means for lawyers to take a trauma-informed approach to our work and (2) offer some quick tips for working with clients who have experienced trauma and may be triggered by their involvement in legal proceedings. This includes quick tips for minimizing retraumatization during interviews and court proceedings, working with survivors on trust and memory issues, and asking clients to speak about their trauma responses during their testimony.
